Exclusive Interview with Artist To1swerve
What is your background, and what got you into music?
Answer- I am Trini; my family got me into music, and what got me into making music was wanting to have an outlet to vent my inner thoughts and feelings.
How long has music been part of your life?
Answer- It has been since birth; being from Trinidad, music is a big part of the culture, Soca music, Raggae and Soul music and others.
If it wasn’t for music, where would you be now?
Answer- Most likely locked up or 6 feet under.
How did you realize that music was the way forward for you?
Answer- When people started paying attention to what I was saying.
- If you had to sacrifice one skill which would it be and why?
Answer- I’d sacrifice being, so organized in my music because since music is an expression, sometimes I just want to burst out my lyrics and words without considering any type of format.
In what way do you want to make a difference?
Answer- I want to show others who come from where we come from that it doesn’t have to end how it’s started.
Who’s your fashion icon and why?
Answer– I don’t have one in particular my dress sense is a fusion of different eras and feelings.
What’s the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?
Answer- I can’t say but at one time it was really serious. I don’t want to get into specifics.
Where is your career heading? What’s the vision?
Answer- It feels like the career is headed in the right way, hard to say where it will reach as I feel that’s up to thhighest. All I can do is keep putting in the work and effort, the rest will take care of itself. The vision is to take care of my family first and foremost then sell out shows, tour the world, make life changing music and hopefully make a difference in people’s lives.
How would you describe your style of music?
Answer- I describe it as hip hop.
How do you put words on paper? What’s your creative process ?
Answer- I really don’t use a note pad. I go with the feeling and the vibe and when the bars are right in my head I then walk into the booth and deliver bar for bar until it sounds right.
When it comes to performing what’s your style?
Answer- The type of performance I give depends on the nature of the record. If its an up tempo energetic record I’ll show lots of energy in the delivery but if its a thought provoking song I might be calm and just stand or walk or even perform accapella. All depends on the song, circumstances, stage and feel.
If you could perform anywhere in the world where would it be?
Answer- The Rolling Loud Festival is the biggest hip hop festival where the best ints. I feel like I’m up there with the best of them. I’m not naïve, though; I’m willing to do the work.
What is your favorite project so far, and why?
Answer- TRAPPED STAR, my next offering, is my favorite because I have matured, and it shows I’m my lyrics and diverse subject matter.
How do you see yourself evolving in the next couple of years?
Answer- I can see myself doing more collaborations with other artists but not too many. The To1swerve brand is growing globally and just making music and other business ventures.
